Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) for Skin and Hair
About Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelet-Rich Plasma or PRP therapy is a natural treatment for skin and hair that uses the regenerative and healing properties of Growth Factors in your own blood platelets. Separating blood cells and isolating plasma allows concentrated nutrients and platelets to be injected back into the skin to encourage healing and generate new tissue.
What are the benefits?
On your hair: PRP boosts the growth of hair follicles and revitalizes the root foundation to grow a thicker and healthier head of hair.
On your skin: PRP targets volume loss by stimulating collagen and provides a skin tightening effect. The treatment also rejuvenates and repairs the skin by reducing fine lines, wrinkles and scars.
What happens during the treatment?
A small amount of blood is collected from a vein in your arm. The blood is then spun in a special centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of the blood components. Once that is done, the plasma (PRP) is extracted from the tube and injected into the desired treatment area.
Does it hurt?
A needle is used to draw blood from a vein in the arm so you will feel a momentary sting. While small needles are used on the treatment area, you will not feel any pain during the procedure. A numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area for increased comfort during the treatment.
What can I expect immediately after the treatment?
You can go about your regular day after the treatment. But you must refrain from sweating and getting your hair or face wet. You can wash your face 6 hours after the PRP treatment.
How many treatments do I need?
It is recommended to get 3 treatments every 4 to 6 weeks. But some people may need multiple treatments to obtain optimal results for hair loss or for deep wrinkles and scarring.
How long does a treatment take?
Each PRP treatment can usually be performed in 30 minutes. But remember, a numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area prior to the treatment so plan to stay for an hour.
How soon can I see results of the treatment?
After approximately 3 weeks you will see improvements in the texture and condition of your skin. On your hair, results can be seen as soon as 3 to 6 months.
Any Side Effects?
PRP is safe because it uses plasma from your own blood so there is no chance of rejection by your immune system. However, you may see mild redness or in some cases bruising after the treatment. The redness should go away in a few hours and bruising should heal in a few days.
